Yuvraj singh and Ashish Nehra have made comebacks
to the Indian squad for the T20Is against Australia in
January. Yuvraj returns to the national fold after two
years, while Nehra last played an international match in
The selectors have included Mohammad Shami and
Ravindra Jadeja in both the ODI and T20 squads.
However, Suresh Raina has been dropped from the ODI
squad for a poor run in the home series against South
Africa but manages to retain his place in the T20s.
Amit Mishra, Stuart Binny and Ambati Rayudu failed to
find berths in both the squads.
Punjab’s young left-arm pacer Barinder Singh Sran has
been rewarded with a maiden call-up to the ODI squad.
Manish Pandey, Gurkeerat Singh Mann and Rishi
Dhawan have also been rewarded with places in the
Hardik Pandya for his good show in IPL along with his
Mumbai Indians’ team-mate Harbhajan Singh been
included in the T20 side. Bhuvneshwar Kumar too
managed to retain his place in the T20 team but
missed out from the ODI format.
When asked on Yuvraj and Nehra’s comebacks,
chairman of selectors Sandeep Patil said both have
been proven performers for India in the past.
“Ashish Nehra is a consistent performer in T20 format,
and this is the time to try him out. Yuvraj Singh has
been special and will always remain special,” Patil said
while announcing the team
“We felt that in batting and bowling, the team was
looking very predictable that is why we have picked
fresh faces. If you look at our selections over the last
three years, we have introduced many youngsters. But
game is also about experience,” Patil added.
Barinder Sran impressed the selectors with his bowling
for Punjab in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy by
bagging 13 wickets from six matches. While Jadeja’s
return was expected after his stupendous bowling in
the recently concluded Test series against South Africa.
The selectors also announced that MS Dhoni will
continue to lead India in ODI and T20 formats till the
